City of Beaconsfield
Implementation of Smart Collection in the City of Beaconsfield
In collaboration with the Beaconsfield Environment Advisory Committee (BEAC) and various municipal services, implemented the first smart collection with an incentive tariff in Quebec. The tariff system is based on volume and the number of bin lifts, in order to reduce waste and increase composting, without increasing waste management costs.
Since the project’s implementation in 2016, the city has reduced 51% of its waste, recovered 66% of its organic waste and reduced collection costs by 42% without increasing its overall waste management budget.
This success paved the way for the smart collection of recycling in 2019.
